DICK BOYD EARNS COVER OF MAIN INGREDIENT MAGAZINE FOR PROSTART® CULINARY EDUCATION INVOLVEMENT

January 23nd, 2007

Portland, Ore –Main Ingredient, the monthly publication of the Oregon Restaurant Association, featured Boyd Coffee Company’s Co-CEO & President, Dick Boyd, on the cover of the January 2007 issue. He is also quoted in the magazine’s cover story, “Preserving Our Educated Workforce”.

Main Ingredient’s editorial staff chose to interview Dick because of his long-time involvement with Oregon’s ProStart® Culinary Education Program (along with supporting Prostart® programs in Washington and California). ProStart® is a two-year curriculum designed to teach, test and award industry-recognized certification to high-school students meeting high standards in hospitality education. Dick has done everything from judging and coaching at ProStart® competitions to providing words of support to students and parents.

According to Dick, being a strong advocate of continuing culinary education is critical to personal as well as professional development and growth for these students. He is quoted in the article as saying the biggest reward is hearing the stories of kids whose lives the program has impacted. “They discover what’s going on in culinary arts, and it turns their life around,” Boyd said in the story.
