BOYDS COFFEE® MAKES A WI-FI WOW!December 12, 2006Portland, Ore – Boyds Coffee® has signed on to be the inaugural coffee/coffee shop/beverage sponsor for the Portland free Wi-Fi project, which launched last week. Portland’s new wireless network, managed by MetroFi, provides free, fast Web access for downtown and the city’s central east side to users with Wi-Fi cards installed in their computers. Prior to launch, MetroFi sought out sponsors interested in supporting the network. Boyds Coffee® signed on, and provided banner ads, which, along with other sponsors’ ads, circulate across the top of the users’ browser page during their connection to Portland’s wireless network. “We are very excited about Portland’s free Wi-Fi project. Portland has always been a progressive city and early adopters of new technologies. The Portland Wi-Fi Project is another example of the city’s commitment to the future. We’re happy to be part of bringing the wireless Internet to Portland,” said Tom Hose, V.P. Sales & Marketing for Boyd Coffee Company. 
“The Portland free wireless network is s a good fit for Boyd Coffee Company as well,” said Darryl Feldman, Brand Manager for Boyds Coffee®. “Boyd Coffee Company has been a Portland institution for more than a century. We’ve always been deeply committed to innovation, so we’re proud to be part of this new technological advance for Portland,” Feldman added. Boyd Coffee Company also participated in the Dec. 5, 2006, “wirecutting” ceremony at Portland Pioneer Square in downtown Portland. Baristas from the downtown Boyds Coffee® stores served coffee and espresso drinks, and handed out gift bags with Boyds Coffee® samples while Portland’s Mayor, Tom Potter, and MetroFi CEO and Founder Chuck Haas spoke about the importance of free wireless networking for Portland.
