HONORS DICK BOYD

The California Restaurant Association Education Foundation (CRAEF) presented Dick Boyd with a Hall of Fame Educational Excellence Award for Dick’s support of the CRAEF’s ProStart® Program. Dick received the “Foundation Award” at the CRAEF Hall of Fame Centennial Celebration held Sat., Aug. 26, in Los Angeles.
The Foundation honored Dick for being a strong supporter of its ProStart® Program in California, Washington and Oregon for the past several years.
The Foundation’s committee commended Dick and Boyd Coffee Company for being the title sponsor for these competitions (it is known as the Boyd Coffee Company Cup Competition), and added, “ … Dick makes it his business to attend each of the competitions and provide coffee carts and friendly staff members to serve the coffee. Students are often impressed by his personal touch.”
Following the award presentation, Dick expressed his high regard for the ProStart® Program. “The teachers are dedicated and passionate, and the post-secondary schools and colleges have high regard for students who have competed through the ProStart® Program. It’s a very valuable experience for them and for Boyd Coffee Company,” Dick said.

ProStart® is a two-year curriculum designed to teach, test and award industry-recognized certification to high school students meeting high standards in hospitality education. CRAEF works with nearly 100 California high schools, as well as outstanding teachers, mentors, students and post-secondary institutions throughout the state, to train future hospitality leaders.
